About this event
The Habitat Restoration Program includes the restoration and enhancing of the Guriwal Trail and revegetating habitat for small birds between the southern boundary into the middle section of the Parklands.
The Guriwal Trail
The Guriwal Trail is a place for learning and sharing Aboriginal plant uses and culture. In 1998 the Guriwal Trail was first developed with the assistance of trainees from the Guriwal Aboriginal Corporation La Perouse to interpret the flora and fauna of the area. The area has been regenerated with several thousand new plantings, focussing on Aboriginal cultural plants, and receives weekly effort removing weeds and improving the natural habitat. It is a popular site for education activities, bush kindergarten, cultural interpretation and walking.
The rehabilitation of the bird habitat
This work is focused on the revegetation of one of inner Sydney’s most important small bird habitat sites. It involves revegetating this important vegetation corridor, which is regularly inhabited by small birds. The aim is to reinforce and expand the habitat for small birds and to enhance the vegetation corridor between the southern boundary into the middle section of the Parklands.
