About this event

Black Friday is coming up, but instead of buying new, why not repair, refresh, and upcycle your clothes?

Join Slogue’s emerging fashion designers for a FREE hands-on workshop where you’ll learn practical DIY fashion hacks to give your wardrobe a second life.

  • Got an old T-shirt ruined by a stain? Hide it with freestyle embroidery or beading.
  • Clothes not serving you anymore? Slash, crop, or fringe your way to a more “you-nique” wardrobe.
  • Think upcycling is just a trend? Mass-produced “dupes” can’t replace the joy of authentic creativity.

How it works

  • We’ll provide free racks of second-hand clothes, and you’re also welcome to bring along your own pieces to refresh.
  • Extra materials will be on hand, including old bed linen to practise on, Parisian lace, vintage buttons, T-shirt yarn and more.
  • All tools will be supplied, such as sewing machines, hand-sewing kits, embroidery hoops and crochet hooks.
  • You’ll also be guided by Gen Z mentors, from high-school textile students to young designers featured in Vogue and Australian Fashion Week.

In this session, you will get to learn how to:

  • Add eyelets and cords to make lace-up tops
  • Bling out old shoes
  • Cover logos with patches or embroidery
  • Make crochet keychains with t-shirt yarn
  • Make fabric yoyos to decorate denim

Fashion can be fun and planet friendly. By joining, you are:

  • Saving clothes from landfill
  • Exploring and expressing your style
  • Learning simple, creative upcycling hacks
  • Meeting like-minded communitMaking a positive impact for the planet

This workshop is free and open to City of Ryde residents only.
