About this event

Get hands-on at Sydney City Farm and help grow fresh seasonal produce for the community. Volunteers support the farm with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and nursery work, while learning practical skills in urban agriculture and sustainable food production.

Produce grown at the farm is donated to local charities supporting people experiencing food insecurity. In 2024/25, volunteers helped produce more than 753 kg of fresh food for local charities.

What you’ll do

• Plant, water and weed crops • Harvest fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs • Raise seedlings and care for plants in the nursery • Collect and process seeds • Help maintain orchard and garden areas • Learn practical urban-growing skills

What’s provided

Guidance from the Sydney City Farm team, access to the farm and the equipment needed for scheduled volunteer activities.

Who can take part

You don’t need previous farming or gardening experience, but volunteers need to be comfortable working outdoors, working as part of a team and standing for the duration of the shift. Some tasks may involve lifting equipment.

Important to know

New volunteers need to attend an induction before joining regular volunteer sessions. After completing the induction, you can register for individual sessions and volunteer as often as you like. Volunteer shifts are usually around 2 hours and bookings are required for each session.
