Hassall Park Bioblitz

Come and see what you can discover at our community BioBlitz! From colourful fungi and tiny insects to native orchids, birds and towering trees, there’s a whole world of biodiversity waiting to be found in the bushland at Hassell Park. While this park is known for its Duffys Forest threatened ecological community, we know surprisingly little about the plants, animals and fungi that live here. Every observation you record helps fill those knowledge gaps, creating valuable citizen science data that supports future conservation and management. You don’t need to be a nature expert to take part – just bring your curiosity! Whether you’re spotting your very first skink, photographing a fungus you’ve never noticed before, or sharing your knowledge of local species, everyone can make a valuable contribution. Local experts will be there to help identify your discoveries and answer your questions along the way. It’s a fun, family-friendly morning outdoors and a great way to connect with nature, meet other members of the community, learn something new, and help uncover the hidden biodiversity in your local area. Wear: Comfortable outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Bring: A water bottle and a smartphone or tablet with the iNaturalist app installed. Meeting location: Hassall Park car park, Hassell Street, St Ives NSW 2075. This event will go ahead in light rain, if more extreme weather is forecast, the event will be postponed and attendees will be notified via email 24 hours prior. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell.
