NAIDOC Week – Family Fun Day

Fairfield City Council in partnership with the Fairfield Engaging Families of Aboriginal Heritage (FEFAH) working group will host the free NAIDOC Family Fun Day event at Fairfield Showground (443 Smithfield Rd Prairiewood) on Tuesday 7 July 2026, 11am – 3pm.

National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee Week (NAIDOC Week) is celebrated every year in the first full week of July, from Sunday to Sunday. NAIDOC Week represents a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and achievements and is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about local First Nations culture and participate in celebrations of the oldest continuous living cultures on Earth.

In 2026, NAIDOC Week will be celebrated from Sunday 5 – Sunday 12 July. The 2026 theme is “Fifty Years Deadly” — a milestone tribute to the people who built the movement, the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made the space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up year after year.

Cultural performances and entertainment from First Nations artists will be highlights of the event. In 2026, performers include Radical Son, the creative moniker of David Leha — a highly skilled artist renowned for his magnetic performances, spell-binding vocals and a style that fuses hip hop, soul and a powerful connection to Country and his cultural roots. Radical Son is First Nations, from the Kamilaroi nation of Australia and the South Pacific nation of Tonga.
