About this event
Nature School provides an opportunity for home school families to add nature play, outdoor skills, sustainability and environmental awareness in their learning activities.
The Nature School program is run by experienced environmental educators, with content linked to NSW Science and Technology and Geography syllabus as well as links to the cross curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge.
Activities range from storytelling, fauna encounters, exploring urban bushlands and child led independent play with a focus on developing self-confidence, problem solving skills and risk management in an outdoor environment.
Thursday 17 August – Winter Shelter
In order for species of plants and animals to survive in particular places where people have altered their natural environment, they have had to adapt to the conditions of the environment in which they live. Students will learn how to build a shelter for animals and explore different types of nest boxes such as possum, micro bat and insect hotels.
Thursday 21 September – Nature Connections
This year at Nature School we have focused on deepening our relationship to nature by identifying and classifying plants and animals. As we move into the season of Spring we will be observing the changes occurring in the bush. Students will have the opportunity to continue our collection of pressed native flowers to create their own piece of art
