About this event

Gardening doesn’t have to be expensive. Join us at the Wildflower Garden for a workshop hosted by Kerrie Anderson.

By learning basic propagation and seed saving skills you can create an abundant, productive garden very quickly. This workshop will teach you how to successfully propagate plants (making new plants from old) from vegetative and root cuttings, layering, division and seed.

Basic seed saving information and practical experience is included. You will get hands on experience making a propagation mix, practicing the different types of propagation and making newspaper pots.

You will leave the workshop with new skills, a sense of achievement and take home some newly propagated plants for your own edible garden.

This workshop is designed for beginners and for those who want to improve their skills. It will include:

  • How to create new plants using different types of propagation.
  • Tools for propagation.
  • Basic seed saving skills.
  • Make propagation containers from upcycled materials, including newspaper pots.
  • Learn the fundamentals of potting mixes and make our own potting mix.
  • How to use your worm castings in propagation.
  • Hands on experience propagating.

This workshop is funded by Ku-ring-gai Council’s Environmental Levy.

The Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden is one of Sydney’s best kept secrets, set across 123 hectares of unique urban bushland and home to two endangered ecological communities as well as 18 threatened species of flora and fauna. The Wildflower Garden is open to the public all year round and has a range of hikes, step-free walking tracks, picnic areas and heritage venue hire as well as a diverse calendar of environmental education programs.
