Eco Festival – Guided Walks

Join us on a beautiful guided bushwalk in Ku-ring-gai to celebrate Eco Festival

All participants should wear sturdy, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen, hat and bring a water bottle.

Fire in the Landscape Guided Walk

When: Sunday 7 September, 9am-11am

Meeting location: Caley’s Pavilion, Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden, 420 Mona Vale Road, St Ives

Join Council’s Strategic Bushfire Officer, Mark ‘Skippy’ Schuster for an insightful bushwalk. Learn how fire has shaped the local landscape as Mark shares the site’s fire history and explains how ecological processes respond to fire. He will also outline Ku-ring-gai Council’s approach to bushfire management – balancing the protection of people, property and the environment. The walk includes a well-earned break to enjoy some homemade damper and a cup of tea!

Spring Wildflowers Guided Walk

When: Saturday 13 September, 2pm-3pm

Meeting location: Barton Fire Trail, end of Barton Crescent, North Wahroonga

Discover a vibrant seasonal display bursting with colour, and learn to spot some of the smaller, often overlooked flowers. This is the perfect walk for nature lovers and budding botanists!

Who Lives Here? A Wildlife Discovery Walk

When: Thursday 25 September, 10am-11.30am

Meeting location: Blackbutt Creek Track, Vale Street, Gordon

Wander beneath some of the tallest Eucalypts in the area – vital habitat for a wide array of native wildlife, including the impressive Powerful Owl, Australia’s largest owl species. As you explore this striking sandstone landscape, you’ll learn about the unique animals that call it home and uncover some unexpected places where they find shelter.

Into the Diatreme: A Guided Rainforest Walk

When: Sunday 28 September, 9am-10.30am

Meeting location: Brown’s Field Oval, Campbell Drive, Wahroonga

Unlike most bushland reserves, Brown’s Field sits within a volcanic diatreme – an ancient geological feature that has nurtured a unique pocket of rainforest. Tucked between two creeks, the reserve supports lush, dense vegetation and several plant species rarely seen elsewhere in the Ku-ring-gai area. As you stroll along the walking track, enjoy striking scenery, towering trees, and keep an eye out for the elusive Powerful Owl, one of the reserve’s most iconic residents.
