About this event
Calling all citizen scientists! Join us for an evening of insect spotting and identification with The Society for Insect Studies at Thornleigh Oval, as part of the Great Southern Bioblitz.
We’ll take you on a short bush walk to experience the hidden nightlife of our local bushland. As night falls, UV lights will reveal the hidden world of moths and other fascinating creatures on the moth sheets.
Come and see how many different moths, spiders and insects we can find, attract, photograph, and identify.
This activity is part of the Great Southern Bioblitz from 24-27 October 2025, where thousands of people across the southern hemisphere will be using their devices to record observations of nature over a few days. Regions in the southern hemisphere will compete and collaborate to find species, make observations, and connect people with nature.
Join other keen iNaturalist users to add observations for Greater Sydney, of which Hornsby Shire is a part of or learn how to use the citizen science app iNaturalist to record wild organisms around you.
Find out more about iNaturalist on our website.
Please come ready with iNaturalist on your mobile phone, a torch, bottle of drinking water, sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
