About this event

Promoting Clean Waterways: Burraneer Bay Marina – Clean Up The Port Hacking

This school holiday season, we are excited to join hands with Clean Up Australia & Marine Rescue to make a positive impact on our local environment. Our event aims to raise awareness about the importance of clean waterways and to actively engage the community in keeping our natural river system pristine. The focus of our efforts will be the beautiful Port Hacking waterways, where we invite the kids of the Shire & Sydney to come together and contribute towards a cleaner, healthier environment.

Event Details:

Date: Saturday 23rd September 2023

Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Location: Port Hacking Waterways & Burraneer Bay Marina, Fuel Wharf.

Who: Kids, Teens, and Families of the Port Hacking & Sydney

Activities and Incentives:

Our event will be a collaborative effort, bringing together families, friends, and kids to participate in a collective cleanup of the Port Hacking waterways. To encourage active involvement, we’re thrilled to offer a special incentive: for every vessel group who assists with the cleanup, Burraneer Bay Marina will be providing 25 cents/litre off on fuel for that vessel for the period of the Spring school holidays (23/09/2023 – 08/10/2023) & alongside Marine Rescue, we will be hosting a BBQ on the day as a token of appreciation for their dedication to the cause. Will be a great day on the water for all and of course for the environment!

Getting Involved:

Participating in our event is a simple yet impactful way to give back to the environment. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Register: You can register via a link on our website & socials or on the day of the event at Burraneer Bay Marina fuel wharf.
  • Bring Supplies: While we will be providing cleanup equipment such as gloves, bags, and other essentials, you’re welcome to bring your own reusable supplies if you prefer.
  • Join the Cleanup: Be prepared to get your hands a little dirty as we work together to collect litter and debris along the waterways. Every piece of trash removed makes a difference. As we gather the rubbish, it’s important to be responsible when doing so and to handle all rubbish with care.
  • Return your Rubbish: Return your rubbish to one of our team members at either the Burraneer Bay Marina fuel wharf or to our marina work boat, George (who will be out and about on the water ways during the day). Please hand your bag of rubbish to an employee of the marina to receive your voucher for fuel discounts. If you’re collecting a significant amount of rubbish, consider using a sturdy bag or container to transport it safely to Burraneer Bay Marina / George.
  • Transport and Disposal: The collected rubbish will be transported to a designated disposal area, where it will be managed responsibly. Our team will ensure that the waste is properly contained and organized for efficient and environmentally conscious disposal.
  • Earn Rewards & BBQ: After the cleanup, you’ll receive your 25 cents off fuel voucher as a gesture of gratitude for your contribution, this can be used at Burraneer Bay Marina Fuel wharf for the period of the school holidays – don’t forget to leave your details with the team at the marina. Also, the wonderful team at Marine Rescue Port Hacking will be hosting a BBQ for all of those that have contributed on the day. This is our way of saying thank you for helping us make a positive impact.
  • Socials: Snap and share your efforts with Burraneer Bay Marina by tagging us here – #bbmcleanupporthackingday.

Safety Guidelines:

As we embark on our mission to clean up the Port Hacking waterways in collaboration with Clean Up Australia, your safety remains our utmost priority. While we are excited about the positive impact we can make together, it’s essential to ensure that our efforts are carried out in a safe and responsible manner. Here’s how we’re working to guarantee a safe experience for everyone involved:

  • Life Jackets: If you’re planning to participate in the cleanup from a boat or kayak, we strongly recommend wearing a life jacket at all times. Life jackets are crucial for your safety, especially when on the water.
  • Sun Protection: The Australian sun can be intense, even during the cooler months. Make sure to bring and apply sunscreen, wear a hat, and stay hydrated throughout the event.
  • Supervision for Minors: If you’re bringing children along, please ensure they are adequately supervised and educated about water safety.

Boating Safety:

Know the Rules: If you’re operating a boat during the event, familiarize yourself with the local boating regulations and adhere to speed limits, no-wake zones, and other waterway rules.
